Once again, we find ourselves in Texas while the best of Mardi Gras is taking place....
Last year, I made the decision to step down as an Administrator and return to full-time teaching. Professionally, I have never made a better decision in my life. But financially, we took a significant hit. Living on a faculty salary isn't "great," but we pretty much prepared as best as we could so that we didn't get hurt too bad with your obligations.
One of the things we had to cut from our budget was saving for trips back home....
We knew we weren't coming home for Mardi Gras this year. There were too many variables that were hindering a trip back home. Not only was it financial--the fact that it comes on the heals of the Super Bowl makes finding a place to stay impossible. So, we save our pennies for a trip back home during St. Patrick's Day weekend. And, honestly, the parades aren't as crazy as the Mardi Gras parades.
Still, I miss seeing Muses on a Thursday night. I miss marching with St. Anne or Mondo Kayo on Mardi Gras day. I miss catching beads. I miss hanging with friends on the parade route.
So, there's next year (isn't that the Jewish saying for Rosh Hashanah?). And I believe we'll be financially better suited to make the trip. In the end, it's all good. You take it one day at a time.
Yeah You Right!
